Interview with creators of Czesiociuch – Polish kids clothes label

Czesiociuch is a Polish kids fashion label based in Warsaw. The concept they represent is simple yet interesting and powerful. I love the unisex/gender free approach just as it is, but the social agenda behind it reflecting taboos still existing in Poland makes it even more special. Products of Czesiociuch are entirely made in Poland, from getting the supplies to creating patterns and sewing (see a short video on it here). Graphics and fabric patterns are designed by talented Polish artists. Everything from their online store, to the packaging is produced by Polish manufacturers.
And they are going global!

For introduction tell us a few words about yourself, who are the people behind Czesiociuch?

Czesiociuch is a company made by two people: musician Czeslaw Mozil and stylist Dorota Zielinska – two strong personalities that complement each other perfectly. And the differences between them provide creative power.

And now Czesiociuch? What does the name stand for?

Czesiociuch, Czesio-ciuch … “Czesio” is a diminutive of Czeslaw, “cuch” is a common name of clothes (Little Czeslaw’s Clothes, pronounced tche-see-o-chookh). The idea was born in the mind of Czeslaw, so hence the name 🙂

How did it all start? Why kids clothes?

Originally, the idea was limited to t-shirts for children of Czeslaw and his band – Czeslaw Singing (Czesław Śpiewa) fans. But when Czeslaw started talking about it with Dorota, his stylist, everything has grown to the size of the entire collection …

There are so many kids brands and talented designers in Poland! Can you tell us something about that phenomenon?

That’s true … We think that after years of functioning in a fairly abstract system, we are full of creativity which was suppressed by the time. Hence, many brand-new companies producing design things, not just for children. Being a full time Mum also helps to create something new;)

What part of the creative process do you like best?

Overall, we think there are two: the observation arises in the head and on paper a new project, and the second is the smile on the kid’s face when they find our new clothes …
